Anita | Anita EP (s/r)

There are many ingredients in a perfect power pop casserole, and the Chicago-based trio Anita have included many of those on their debut EP—crunchy pop guitars, nasal vocals, short song lengths—but forgot the most important ingredient of all: the hooks. Though the songs on the band's self-titled debut EP are well-constructed, they don't stick with you when the disc is done spinning (though the Apples in Stereo-ish "Shame" comes close), and with a run time of less than 13 minutes, there's not much here to sink your teeth into either. Anita at least shows that the band has potential, even if it hasn't quite fully realized it yet. B- | Jason Green
