As cool as it is for "Making Love" to see a second life, it is rather disappointing that it does not come with any extras.

Recorded and released between 1997's Lula Divinia (arguably their finest recording) and 2000's Starless, Shiner's Making Love never saw what would be considered a proper release. In its relative infancy and without national distribution, Kansas City's Anodyne Records released the disc in limited numbers. So once they were gone, they were gone. It transformed the disc into rarity, especially outside of the KC/Lawrence area.

Take a jump to the present and Making Love is seeing new life. Accompanying the title track—a reworking of the Bad Company "classic"—are four live cuts ("Fetch a Switch" and "He/She" from Splay and "Third Gear Scratch" and "Cake" from Lula Divinia) As was the problem when it was first released, Shiner's rendition of "Making Love" is rather pedestrian—which makes sense, given that the original was a horseshit song to begin with.

The reason for purchasing this disc lies with the live tracks. As cool as it is for "Making Love" to see a second life, it is rather disappointing that it does not come with any extras. One cannot help to feel that a track or two—either studio rarity or more live tracks—would have elevated the quality of this release and provided those that already own it a reason to buy it again.
