prev_nydollsWho would have thought just a few short years ago that the New York Dolls would not only be touring under a brand new album, but coming to St. Louis as well? And at Mississippi Nights, even? Surely, anyone even suggesting that would have been labeled a loon and then immediately thrown in the funny farm.

Times certainly change, though. In 2004, Morrissey organized a reunion of the Dolls for the Meltdown Festival. This led to Greg Whiteley's funny and touching documentary, New York Doll, about troubled Dolls bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane, as well as All Dolled Up, a collection of early performance and behind-the-scenes footage by photographer and band friend Bob Gruen.

However, it was when rumors of a revamped lineup-recording a new disc and hitting the road-turned into reality that New York Dolls fans truly had something to celebrate. The album, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, features original Dolls David Johansen and guitarist Sylvain Sylvain, along with new Dolls, guitarist Steve Conte, bassist Sami Yaffa (formerly of Hanoi Rocks), drummer Brian Delaney, and keyboardist Brian Koonin. The band is currently headlining Little Steven's Underground Garage Tour, sharing the stage with the likes of the Supersuckers and the Chesterfield Kings. Expect to hear favorites like "Personality Crisis" played with the kind of raucous rock 'n' roll abandon for which the Dolls are famous. See you at Mississippi Nights-I'll be the one dancing like a monkey. | Jim Ousley
