For the first time in its nearly 25-year history, the annual Farm Aid benefit concert, designed to raise money for family farmers, will take place in Missouri this Sunday at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Farm Aid 2009, presented by Horizon Organic will feature performances by board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews as well as numerous other artists including Jason Mraz, Gretchen Wilson and local favorites Wilco in the only area appearance on their current tour.

"Farm Aid has deep roots in the Midwest that reach back to our first concert in Illinois in 1985," said Farm Aid president Willie Nelson. "Farmers do so much more than bring us the good food we all want to eat. America needs family farmers to revitalize our economy and make our country healthy."

I addition to a full day’s lineup of music, Farm Aid will feature HOMEGROWN concessions – family-farm identified, local and organic foods -as well as the HOMEGROWN Village showcasing hands-on activities giving concertgoers a chance to meet real Missouri family farmers, get their hands dirty and learn about what they do and how it contributes to the local economy.

What could be better than spending a crisp, fall afternoon listening to some of the world’s greatest musicians while helping raise money and awareness for a great cause? Since its inception, Farm Aid and its supporting artists have raised nearly $35 million to support programs to help family farmers thrive.
