The Pretty Reckless | Going to Hell (Razor & Tie)

cd tprGoing to Hell is filled with blistering songs that leave the listener spent by album’s end.

With so many new bands on the scene today simply rehashing the old, The Pretty Reckless has found its own sound and personality. Hailing from NYC, the four-piece outfit has toured with such acts as Guns N Roses, Marilyn Manson, and Evanescence. On its latest album, Going to Hell, TPR proves that it can rock with the big boys. Tight, clean, yet with a raw edge, this album is straight-up, no-frills hard rock with sass and attitude.

Produced by Kato Khandwala, Going to Hell is filled with blistering songs that leave the listener spent by album’s end. With strong songwriting, fiery guitar work, and a killer rhythm section, TPR stays true to its style, and therein lies its strength. Sonically, it holds nothing back. This band is good—very good—and has a bright future ahead.

Spotlight tracks here include “Heaven Knows,” an anthem-style rocker that will leave you singing its hook long after the CD ends. With its blues-driven chorus, “Follow Me Down” will have you finger-snapping and tapping your feet whether you want to or not. Other highlights are “Sweet Things,” a melodious ballad showcasing Taylor Monsen’s superb voice, and the title track, with its scathing riff and vicious vocals.

Relevant, timely, and full of sass, Going to Hell rages from front to back. Melodic and heavy, this is balls-to-the-wall hard rock that reels you in from the first track, and doesn’t let go. Laden with classic guitar riffs, and vocals that go from beautiful to brutal, Going to Hell is the album to grab if you want to rock this spring. B+ | Marc Farr
