The iconic hit-making duo Simon and Garfunkel are honored with the release of the Audiophile Vinyl set, The Complete Columbia Albums Collection. This six-LP set contains the albums made by the act while signed to Columbia Records. Starting with their first release, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M., the album contains twelve tracks and has been remastered on 180-gram vinyl. Containing the original acoustic version of the smash single, “The Sound of Silence,” the album shows the origins of the group beautifully.

The remaining five albums included here show the growth of Simon and Garfunkel as they progressed through the years. Sounds of Silence includes the electric version of the song, and the sound is superb. The remastering and the quality of the vinyl provide a wonderful sound experience.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, their third album, contains the hit “Scarborough Fair/Canticle,” as well as “The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy),” and, again, the sound is impeccable. The true talent these guys possessed shines through these recordings once again, and it is fantastic. This is a truly beautiful set.

Bookends, their fourth outings for Columbia, spawned the radio favorite “Mrs. Robinson,” from the motion picture The Graduate. This particular track has been used in many other films and television shows. Bridge Over Troubled Water, while often is believed to be a solo effort by Garfunkel, was actually recorded by the duo first.

Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits contains all the charting hit songs from all six of the albums in their catalogue. From “I Am a Rock” to “Cecilia,” all the hits are there. With the remastering of the songs, the sound is 360 degree stereo. Combined with a 20-page booklet and beautiful photo poster, this set is magnificent and has plenty to offer. All the albums feature their original artwork, as well as digital downloads. The set is limited and numbered.

Also seeing release is the vinyl and CD/DVD of Simon and Garfunkel Live in Central Park. The event, which took place in 1981, saw the reuniting of the act in a live setting. While Simon performs many of his solo hits, it is the older material that he recorded with Garfunkel that truly shines here. On 180-gram vinyl, as well as CD/DVD formats, it was originally released in 1982 on Warner Bros. Records.

Overall, this set is one not to be missed. Beautifully packaged with a chimerical sound, fans will feast on this set. A | Marc Farr
