I’ve got 15 minutes before I have to dash into a meeting, so I just want to say Season of Sweets is a fuzzed-out, garage-rocking, sometimes indulgent, yet always delicious new record from Pittsburgh band Modey Lemon. If you live in St. Louis, I hope you are reading this on Wednesday, June 25, because they’re playing tonight at Bluebird. So yeah, I apologize for not telling you how great Modey Lemon is sooner. I was skeptical at first, seeing as the back of the CD features an ice cream cone studded with eyeballs and presumably blood.

But from the first track, I was sold. "The Bear Comes Back Down the Mtn" took me back to my synthy goth days, when I’d begun to experiment with industrial. It’s the type of song you shouldn’t bother listening to unless you’re going to turn the volume all the way up and jump around like a loon. I did. I mean, come on, who doesn’t love the Moog?

To be honest, I really like just about every other track, and would give an "eh" to the others. "It Made You Dumb" should be on your iPod right now. It’s all sunshiny and features a super-deluxe great hook. "Cut your tongue, and it made you dumb!" Why haven’t I heard of Modey Lemon before? So again, I apologize for not spreading the word sooner. If you miss what’s sure to be a blistering St. Louis show, check out Modey Lemon in Chicago at Beat Kitchen July 11. A- | Rebecca Reardon
