Elvis Presley | I Am An Elvis Fan (RCA Legacy)

elvis fanAll the tracks have been released before, so this is basically a greatest-hits album with an unusual selection process.

The fans have spoken and Pop Elvis is the clear winner, followed by Rockabilly Elvis, with Movie Elvis and Gospel Elvis bringing up the rear. In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, the 21 selections on Legacy Recording’s new album I Am An Elvis Fan were selected by fans in 20 countries, who cast their votes between May 1-12 of this year. Those who participated cast their votes for the top three recordings in seven genres, as defined by Legacy (and different from the genres used in my opening sentence, but never mind): country, movies, love songs, gospel, in concert, 1950s, and 1960s. All the tracks have been released before, so this is basically a greatest-hits album with an unusual selection process.

I’m more of a Rockabilly Elvis gal myself, so this is not an album trimmed to my tastes, but if your tastes run more toward pop, and toward the Elvis of the 1960s and 1970s rather than the Elvis of the 1950s, this album may be right up your alley. Four of the included songs date from the 1950s (“Don’t Be Cruel,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “All Shook Up,” and “Jailhouse Rock”), nine from the 1960s (including “Blue Hawaii,” “Suspicious Minds,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Viva Las Vegas”), and the remainder from the 1970s (including “Always On My Mind,” “Kentucky Rain,” and “Burning Love”).

You can read more about the album (including a complete track list) on its official website, where you can also pre-order the CD (it’s slated for release on July 31) and upload a photo of yourself to be part of the cover art, which will be a mosaic of photos contributed by Elvis fans.
