Their Gaelic aesthetic and sound come across like small pieces of history, yet still fit our contemporary world.
Celtic Thunder is back with a new CD and DVD, Legacy Volume 1. Filmed in Ontario, Canada, the DVD captures a state-of-the-art show, casting the ensemble in a new aesthetic. The show celebrates the CD, which the band plays in its entirety, along with songs from their nine previous releases. Through it all, the band is articulate and emotional.
Celtic Thunder has earned its international stardom. Their Gaelic aesthetic and sound come across like small pieces of history, yet still fit our contemporary world. Founded in Dublin, Ireland, in 2007, the group is known for its powerful performances. Vocal harmony prowess, along with superior musicianship and top-notch production, make for quite an enjoyable show.
Critics and audiences alike adore them. Billboard Magazine named Celtic Thunder the Top World Album Artist three times: 2008, 2009, and 2011.Every year since 2008; the group has earned a Top 10 spot in the World Album category. Playing favorites such as concert opener “Heartland,” along with its odd, introit classics like “Danny Boy,” the act mix adult contemporary ideas and structure with classic Celtic sounds.
The album Legacy Volume One was produced by David Munro, while the DVD is produced by Sharon Browne. While the CD ebbs and flows very nicely, the DVD is more fun, and more entertaining. Overall, this is a great release from a sometimes underappreciated act. After nine albums and extensive touring, Celtic Thunder has become a household name. A+ | Marc Farr
