On Tour: ZZ Top

Billy Gibbons has been named one of the best blues guitarists of all time.

ZZ Top is a name to be reckoned with in the music industry. The trio has succeeded in selling over 50 million albums worldwide, starting with their 1971 debut. During a 45-plus-year run as an influential, viable musical act, the band has always been a fan favorite with sold-out shows on every tour.

This fall, ZZ Top is bringing its patented style of blues rock to fans across the United States. With so many albums sold, the band has much material to choose from, but one thing is for sure: If you are looking to hear the hits, you will. Tracks like “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Legs” from the 1983 mega hit album, Eliminator, as well as hits like “Tush” and “Give Me All Your Lovin’.” Known for their long beards, sexual innuendoes, and double entendres, the members of ZZ Top are actually quite known for their technicality.

As musicians, they are top notch, with Billy Gibbons named one of the best blues guitarists of all time. The band has rocked an original lineup its entire career; joining the front man are Frank Beard on drums (who usually only sports a mustache) and co-lead vocalist and bassist Dusty Hill. ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and has released 15 LPs to date.

Incorporating blues rock with new wave, pop, and synthesizers, the band has a sound all its own. When ZZ Top comes on the radio, you immediately know it’s them. | Marc Farr
