On Tour: Tig Notaro

When you listen to her standup, you can pick up on the music in cadence and storytelling.

Tig Notaro

There’s bravery, which a lot of cancer survivors are accused of having, and then there’s tenacity. Bravery is doing the thing even though you’re afraid; tenacity is doing the thing because you don’t have a choice, and then continuing to do more things after you get your ass kicked. Tig Notaro is tenacious.

She has been doing comedy for about a decade, but her blazingly honest, authentic, and hilarious standup about her experiences with cancer has lifted her up to fame. When you listen to her standup, you can pick up on the music in cadence and storytelling. Her first career was as a band manager, which turned into acting, which led to comedy. Her health and romantic history have shifted her standup to more of a storytelling style, which is so engaging. You nearly lose track of time while you’re watching her.

Notaro has a great show on Amazon called One Mississippi, an autobiography coming soon, and a Showtime documentary called Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro.

She’s also going to be in St. Louis at the Pageant on 06.8. You’re not going to want to miss this. | Melissa Cynova
