On Tour: Machine Gun Kelly

Quick verses, tricky guitar riffs, and obvious influences from people like Diddy and Black Flag.

Cleveland-based rapper Machine Gun Kelly is one of the most innovative and unique guys in the game. Having found a way to bridge the gap between the two very contrasting genres of hip-hop and punk rock separates MGK from the rest. Upon listening to his music, one takes a trip through his artistry: quick verses, tricky guitar riffs, and obvious influences from people like Diddy and Black Flag. An interesting combination, yes, but it has paid off quite nicely for the 26-year-old.

Since stepping foot on the rap scene in 2006, he’s dropped seven EPs and two studio albums, and has collaborated with artists like Waka Flocka Flame, Diddy, Sleeping With Sirens, Kid Ink, Elle Varner, Young Jeezy, Ester Dean, Lil Jon, French Montana, Red Cafe, King Los, Killa Kyleon, Juicy J, The Madden Brothers, Mike Posner, and, most recently, Camila Cabello of Fifth Harmony on his newest single titled “Bad Things.”

Known for his high-energy stage presence and live band, MGK has been touring nonstop this year. He is currently on a North American tour sure to help hip-hop fans appreciate punk rock, and punk rock fans appreciate hip-hop. | Alyssa Bardol
