ON TOUR: Air Supply

As musical trends continue to change, Air Supply’s angelic, harmonic soft sound has remained intact and relevant.

No other soft rock duo has hit the heights of stardom quite like Air Supply. Starting in the 1970s, they have scored eight top 10 hits in the U.S. alone. The band mainly consists of duo Russell Hitchcock on lead vocals and Graham Russell on guitar and vocals. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, their first single, “Lost in Love” took over the AOR and soft rock airways, and a hit was born. Their next release, “All Out of Love,” went to number two on the U.S. charts and cemented their place in music history.

The band got their start in 1973. They had no idea how fiercely popular they were to become. They were romance made of music. Now after having released 17 albums to date, they are one of the best selling soft rock acts of all time. They have scored several hits over the past 40+ years and continue to tour those hits around the world.

While they have had many musicians in the band throughout the years, the Russell/Hitchcock core has never wavered. As musical trends continue to change, Air Supply’s angelic, harmonic soft sound has remained intact and relevant.

They continued to score hits into the 80s, 90s, and the new millennium. Tracks like “Here I Am,” “Sweet Dreams,” Making Love Out of Love,” and the super-popular “The One That You Love” have been wildly successful across the globe.

The act was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association’s Hall Of Fame in 2013.The duo was even sometime hosts of the successful music show “Solid Gold,” filling in for an ailing Andy Gibb. Yet through their many years in the business, they have never sold out to trends. They will always remain a softer sound. That is what they do best…and they do it quite well. | Marc Farr
