Every Holiday season, Pink Floyd fans can look forward to a weeklong residency from El Monstero, the country’s premiere Pink Floyd tribute band. When the members from several local bands (Joe Dirt, the Urge, the Incurables) come together, they bring Pink Floyd’s music and visuals to the stage in an incredible way.

And this is no easy task. Complete with actors from the film version of The Wall and the ability to recreate Floyd’s music note for progressive note, the talent level in El Monstero is top-notch. The last time we were able to see the band was in August, with a special summer show on Art Hill in Forest Park This year’s tour has been dubbed “We Are We,” and takes place over six nights at The Pageant.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to see the band live, I recommend it highly. From “Dark Side of the Moon” to the uber hits “Another Brick in the Wall,” “Mother,” and “Us and Them,” the act runs the gamut of Pink Floyd’s massive catalog. One may even hear the newest single from the real Floyd, from their newest LP The Endless River.

The full-on juggernaut of Pink Floyd live has never been as well done as it is here. As the real thing approaches retirement (and hasn’t toured in years), one can simply attend an El Monstero show, close your eyes (or not), and truly feel the pure spirit of Pink Floyd in the air—as well as from the speakers. Few tribute bands carry the reputation for greatness like El Monstero.

El Monstero is a staple of the St. Louis music scene, and of the holiday season. With two of the six shows already sold out, you may want to get tickets as soon as possible; they go quickly. | Marc Farr

El Monstero is playing six shows at The Pageant: Dec. 19, 20, 23, 26, 27, & 28. Tickets are $27.50–$45 and are available at The Pageant box office and all Ticketmaster locations.
