Beale Street Music Festival Preview | 05.01-05.03

The new meets the experienced.

Considering those tickets to Ed Sheeran, Wilco, Ryan Adams, or Pointfest? Here is an alternative: For just under 105 dollars (AFTER fees) you can see Sheeran, Wilco, Adams, other artists like The Flaming Lips, Pixies, Cage the Elephant, Hozier, Slash, and St. Vincent, and many more.

Beale Street Music Festival returns this year May 1-3 in downtown Memphis, TN. It remains one of the most cost efficient vacations you can treat yourself to. The lineup features many acts you won’t see at other festivals, which seem to be featuring a lot of the same artists this year.

Many established acts like Lenny Kravitz, Wilco, John Fogerty and Slash join an equally large group of rising musical stars like Hozier, AWOLNATION, Jenny Lewis, Lindsey Stirling, and Bleachers.

In typical Memphis fashion, soul, blues, and funk are once again well represented with George Clinton & the Parliament Funkadelic, Lecrae, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Bettye LaVette—representing the sounds the represent Memphis.

The festival is set up in a way that encourages those who like a particular genre to be able to relax at a single stage all day. For those with a more varied taste, Tom Lee Park isn’t a hassle to walk from one end to the other if you want to see Jenny Lewis before popping over to head-bang with Breaking Benjamin.

If you have yet to experience the festival, you can read our review of 2013’s festivities (which also featured the Flaming Lips) here. Don’t wait too long, as most downtown hotels are already fully booked, and ones within a 15-20 minute drive are also going quickly.

Tickets are available here. Beware—prices go up on April 20th!
