Yeah, so it's already the weekend. There was a holiday in there; it messed me up. I'm just now getting started!

But if it messed me up, it probably messed some of you up, as well. So it's Friday already, and you're probably sitting there, scratching your head, wondering what to do with your fine self. Have I got some recommendations for you.

Wydown CD Release Party | July 7, Mississippi Nights

Tonight our hometown boys celebrate their first full-length release, Noise of America. It's a great disc, one that shows the band's growth and maturity since its undergraduate beginnings a few years ago. And the live show's full of energy, momentum and musical instruments (now, that's always fun!). Also on the bill: Ultra Blue, Geoff Koch, and Groupthink. Miles of Wire w/Geoff Koch | July 8, Lucas School House

Geoff's back for a second appearance this weekend, this time opening for Miles of Wire at the Lucas School House. Haven't been there yet? This top-of-the-line venue is a huge coup for our city; you'll feel positively pampered while you rock out with the rest of us. Geoff's recording a live CD tonight, so if you "whoo" loud enough, you'll be a part of history.

World Cup Third & First Place Matches | July 7 & 8

It's the last hurrah for the 2006 World Cup and, boy, have we enjoyed it. Jim and I will be cheering on Germany and France, respectively, at the Tap Room both days this weekend. Join us, won't you?
