Read It Free! | On the House – 1st Round: Robot Ruckus (Ink and Drink Comics)

The locally-based Ink and Drink Comics crew offers up a free sample of their wares in the Free Comic Bok Day release On the House, and you can read the entire thing for free, courtesy of your pals at PLAYBACK:stl.

Ink and Drink Comics, a St. Louis-based collective of comic book writers and artists, has proved their mettle with a quartet of semiannual short story anthologies themed around the classic non-superhero comics genres of horror (their 2010 debut Spirits of St. Louis), crime (2011’s Shots in the Dark), science fiction (2011’s Blasted!), and Western (Off the Wagon, just released in April of 2012). But for those who haven’t had the opportunity to sample their wares, the I&D crew crafted a special sampler of new stories especially for Free Comic Book Day, a miniature version of the wide variety of flavors available in their formal releases. And this first taste? Naturally, it’s On the House.
The “1st round” of On the House, subtitled “Robot Ruckus,” contains a series of one- and two-page short stories that all involve robots in some way, a sort of sideways variation of the company’s usual genre-themed M.O. PLAYBACK:stl is proud to present the first issue of On the House to read, for free, in its entirety.

Copies of the group’s anthologies are available at most comic shops in and around St. Louis, or can be ordered online via Indy Planet. Keep an eye out for the Ink and Drink Comics fantasy anthology Hammered, coming to stores this Fall.
About Ink and Drink Comics: Founded in 2010, Ink and Drink Comics publishes genre-themed anthologies that showcase the talents of St. Louis comics creators in the hopes of fostering, in story form, the camaraderie present at the monthly “ink and drink” sessions that inspired the company’s creation.
