St. Louis, MO – South St. Louis is about to get a shot in the arm. Sitting at the notorious "wedge" formed by the streets of Virginia, Bates and Compton, The Wedge is set to reopen its doors and usher in a new era of coolness to this charming south city neighborhood.

The Wedge has undergone a major transformation in the last year. Many who remember having a few drinks at the bar in years past will be amazed at the transformation that the building has undergone. Most notably, the upstairs apartments have been cleared out and a new performance venue has been created, offering St. Louis bands and other performers a hip, intimate space to wow their audiences. The Iggy Ziggy Room will offer fantastic sound and lights as well as a full bar to keep your whistle wet.

In addition to the new performance space, downstairs room has also undergone a substantial face-lift as well, and will now also be a fully functional restaurant. The Wedge will offer a menu of classic Italian cuisine in the form pizza, calzones, salads and soups. The dough is made fresh in the kitchen, the ingredients are fresh and local. Menu consultant Blake Brokaw (Tangerine, Chocolate Bar, Hungry Buddha) has designed a collection of eats that won’t be like your typical neighborhood bar food.

The folks serving up the food and drinks will be familiar faces as well. The Wedge has attracted some of the best bar and wait staffers from around town, including some folks from late, great Hi Pointe Café, as well as from other notable eateries and fine drinking establishments.

The Wedge will officially open for business on Friday, October 17. The restaurant will open for lunch at 11am, and continue serving food on through 11pm in the evening, with a limited late-nite menu through close at 1:30am.

To help celebrate the opening, local hard rock favorites GoldTooth will be taking the stage at 10pm for a thrashing throw down. Prior to GoldTooth performing, DJ Elemental Child will be spinning his massive collection of music in the ground floor bar, starting at 8pm. And who know? There might just be a few more surprises lined up.

While there’s no charge to come into the bar and say hello on this evening, admission to the GoldTooth performance in the Iggy Ziggy Room is $8, with a $2 surcharge for those under 21. The Iggy Ziggy Room is an 18+ venue.

In the days and weeks coming up, The Wedge will also host performances by Lola van Ella and her punk rock burlesque troupe; The NonProphet Theater Company and their award winning sketch comedy show; Left Arm, The 75s, Cassie Morgan and many other local and touring bands and musical artists. The Wedge will also be hosting karaoke and Tenacious Trivia later in the month. And as always, you’ll find the best rock n’ roll ever made being played over The Wedge’s PA system daily.

It’s never going to be a dull night at The Wedge.
