Upstream Theater is pleased to present the US premiere of The Concert (El Concierto)  by Ulises Rodríguez Febles, in an English translation by William Gregory.  Performances are April 4-6, 10-13, and 17-20 at 305 S. Skinker Blvd. (at Fauquier between Clayton and Wydown). All shows are at 8 PM except Sundays at 7 PM.

The Concert begins with the removal of a new statue to John Lennon in Havana, by a man determined to honor his personal pledge to the Beatles. As he attempts to round up his old band, we discover what obstacles he and his friends encountered in Cuba of the 1960s and 1970s. This award-winning play offers a warm and insightful look at the universal predicament of someone intent on preserving a passion of youth while the rest of the world grows older.

Directed by Philip Boehm and starring Jerry Vogel as Johnny, together with Briston Ashe, Thomasina Clarke, J. Samuel Davis, Peter Mayer, Norman McGowan, Jane Paradise, Isabel Pastrana, Terell W. J. Randall Sr., and featuring Farshid Soltanshahi as John Lennon. Set Design by Igor Karash. Altar art by Inez Guzmán. Costumes by Michele Siler. Lighting by Sean Savoie. Special consulting by Beatle Bob.

Tickets are $20, $18 for seniors, and $15 for students. Special group discounts available. For reservations please call 863-4999 or email upstreamtheater@sbcglobal.net . Opening night features a donor appreciation party with Latin music open to the public for a minimal cover.
