South by South City Event to Feature Victoria

newsvictoria.jpgSt. Louis based rock group Victoria is set to headline South by South City (SXSC), a two-day extravaganza at Off Broadway on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9.

The complete lineup features seven bands including New York City based act Cheyenne, who just released the critically acclaimed album "The Whale" and are also bringing tour mate Wynn Walent for their stop in St. Louis. The weekend also features rock band Team Mascot from Gainesville, Florida, along with local acts Red Water Revival, Painkiller Jane and the newly created David Beeman Band.

The first weekend in March has a tendency to be overlooked by the indie rock community, as bands attempt to participate in the prestigious South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. This weekend will now become the home of the first annual South by South City showcase.

The emergence of SXSC will provide a valuable showcase opportunity for up-and-coming artists, both here in St. Louis and from around the country, that may not make South by Southwest a part of their tours. The goal is to develop a tradition that like SXSW, will highlight new talent every year and showcase bands that at this time are well on their way to performing other larger festivals and showcases. At SXSC, the same energy surrounding Austin in March will fuel Off Broadway for two full nights with seven amazing bands and other entertainment.

Off Broadway is located at 3509 Lemp Ave. in St. Louis, Mo. Tickets are available for purchase in advance and at the door for $7 each night or $10 for both nights. Doors open at 8 p.m. both nights.
