On December 15, 2007, rock-tech guru Jerry Harvey and wife Brittany are teaming up with rock legends Van Halen for a birthday bash and charity guitar auction at Bar Louie in the Central West End to celebrate the second birthday of their daughter, Katie Harvey, who was diagnosed at three months with a rare combination of Hydrocephalus and Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency.

The auction will feature autographed guitars donated by music legends Guns N’ Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Sugarland, Kenny Chesney and the Dixie Chicks. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments, a St. Louis organization that has played an instrumental role in Katie’s life.

"When Katie was first diagnosed, we were told that she would only live to be six months old," Brittany Harvey said. "But thanks to St. Louis-area organizations like the Delta Gamma Center, our baby is living a life that nobody thought possible. This is an organization that truly cares, and we want to share that story with the whole world."

When she was only three months old, Katie was diagnosed with the rare disease Hydrocephalus and Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency, which has left her with severe hearing and vision impairment, congenital hip dysplasia and global development delay. Since then, Katie and her parents have participated actively in the Delta Gamma Center’s support and education programs.

In 2006, the Harveys celebrated Katie’s first birthday by raising $75,000 for Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Disease research at Cleveland Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. This year, Katie’s birthday bash will support the Delta Gamma Center’s capital campaign for a new facility.

The party will be held at Bar Louie in the Central West End, and will feature a live DJ, a rock music light show, and live performances by R.I.P and Pat Liston of Mama’s Pride. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for a $100 tax-deductible donation. For more information, call (314) 825-0547 or visit http://www.dgckids.org/katiesbdaybash.
