::: MAY EVENTS AT MAD ART

St. Louis Magazine Sips and Sounds
May 10 ::: 6-9PM
Benefit Cocktail Party

Kerry Zimmerman & Cathy Breslaw Exhibition
May 11 ::: 7-11PM
Photographer Kerry Zimmerman and fiber artist Cathy Breslaw exhibit May 11-29 with an opening reception May 11th from 7-11 p.m.
Zimmerman is an artist and high school teacher in St Louis. "Having lived in five cities in the past seventeen years, I tend to use photography to orient myself physically and mentally. Moving here, knowing no one, allowed me to use my camera to get my bearings in another new home. I moved to St. Louis in 2005 and have expanded this series since that time. These images were taken with a Holga, a toy camera—the images tend to have a limited plane of focus and intense vignetting. These features mirror my own experiences as a newcomer to St Louis."

Brewslaw's current body of work includes wall and floor pieces constructed from plastic mesh that are a fusion of painting, weaving, craft, fashion and sculpture. Issues of femininity, beauty and cross cultural boundaries form some of its undercurrents. Elements of color, line, texture and pattern figure prominently.
