SAINT LOUIS, July 7, 2008 — In support of its ongoing commitment to prevent kidney disease, the National Kidney Foundation Serving Eastern Missouri and Metro East (NKF) today announced a first-ever fundraising benefit concert to take place on Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Lucas School House in the Soulard district of Saint Louis. Proceeds will benefit the NKF.

The 2008 NKF Music Jam will feature music performances by The Clark Canan Band, Common Roots, Teddy Presberg & The Red Note Revivalists, and Vijoy Rao & The Removers. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and music starts at 8:00 p.m. Attendees must be at least 21 years old, and there is a minimum donation of $10.

“I am humbled by the number of people that are willing to contribute and help make this benefit concert a reality,“ said Vijoy Rao, frontman for Vijoy Rao & The Removers who last year donated a kidney to his father. “The NKF cause is important to my family and many others so it’s great to be able to show support by doing what I love to do.“

A division of the National Kidney Foundation, Inc., the NKF serves the eastern half of Missouri and Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties in Illinois. The NKF offers free kidney health screenings; public, patient, and professional educational materials and symposia; patient assistance programs; support for the U.S. Transplant Games; and funding for medical research.

“We’re always trying to find new ways to reach people in our community,“ said Steve Engel, division president, NKF. “This benefit concert is a great way to convey our message to a new audience, raise awareness and funds for our cause, and provide great entertainment at the same time.“

Lucas School House is located at 1220 Allen Ave., at the corner of Allen and Gravois.
