Raja’s daughters Maliha and Jade are throwing their father a birthday party! Their "#1 Dad" will receive special presents at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 27 in River’s Edge at the Saint Louis Zoo, weather permitting. Visitors are invited to sing "Happy Birthday" and cheer for Raja who turns 15 this year.

Raja, the first Asian elephant born at the Zoo, is the proud papa of babies Maliha, 16 months, and Jade, 10 months. The youngsters may make surprise appearances in separate habitats that morning, weather permitting. They will receive presents of their own to open in honor of their father’s birthday.

Zookeepers and volunteers have constructed giant cards and presents for the party filled with some of the elephant’s favorite things, including cereal, melons, bananas, popcorn and more.

From 10:30-11:00, there will be keeper chats and animal training demonstrations at the elephant habitats. After the celebration, visitors can sign a giant birthday card and learn more about the elephants with keeper chats, activities and biofacts at Lakeside Café. Birthday cupcakes and hot chocolate will be available for purchase.

The Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with free admission. U.S. Bank Wild Lights at the Zoo continues nightly through Saturday, December 30, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission to Wild Lights is $5 per person; $4 for Zoo Friends members.
