Fionn Regan | Exchanging Stories

Written by Glen Elkins Monday, 08 October 2007 01:44

"Conversations that you've had, the way you feel, the way you think, things you've passed by, things you remember, things you don't want to remember, and the dirt under your sing about that."

Widespread Panic | More Than 20 Years on the Road

Written by Amy Burger Friday, 05 October 2007 12:33

widespread.gifHow we put it all together is still a mystery to us as well as our fans, but we've been at this over 20 years. We never know where it's going to take us - we talk about it at the beginning of the show but it's all spur of the moment, how we're feeling, what kind of vibe we're getting from the crowd.

The Outformation | Sam Holt Channels Michael Houser

Written by Amy Burger Friday, 28 September 2007 02:14

Basically, like most teenagers I just wanted a guitar. I saw people on TV like Jimi Page when I was 14
and remember thinking, "Holy crap!"

Ingrid Michaelson | Girls and Boys (Cabin 24)

cd_ingrid.jpgHere, I thought, is my next Aimee Mann girl crush, someone whose gorgeous, heartbreaking voice is matched by engaging storytelling and simple, piano-driven instrumentation.

Editors | Working Class Rock

Written by Raymee Holshouser Friday, 21 September 2007 03:58

editorsheader.jpgWith a rich layered sound complete with a gutsy lead vocal, consistent rhythm and the right amount of blaring guitar, Editors are compared to legendary acts such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division, U2 and current trend rockers such as Interpol, Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand.

Athlete | This Is What I Sound Like

Written by Kiernan Scrima Thursday, 20 September 2007 01:50

"If you can't stay on top of the egos or how the four of us rub off on each other, then that's almost going to be the beginning of the end, and that's when the music stops coming."

Steve Morse | High Atop the Mountain

Written by Derek Lauer Sunday, 09 September 2007 09:21

profile_morse_smA rare opportunity to speak to one of the most important composers of our time, a huge influence on musicians the world over.

Eleni Mandell | Salt Truck = Love

Friday, 31 August 2007 08:29

eleni-smI think about what I'll do when I'm 60—whether I'll still be writing music and performing it live—and I always think, "What will I wear? Will I still be able to wear these rags that I got treasure hunting at flea markets or will that look ridiculous?"

Rilo Kiley | A Slicker, Sexier Sound

Written by Kevin Renick Thursday, 23 August 2007 01:02

"[The support structure in the band] was a relief, but in other ways, we have to learn to compromise again. And learn to be criticized. You just have to know the limits, and to know that you're making a record with people you want to make a record with."

Mark Olson Sings the Salvation Blues

Written by Jason Green Monday, 20 August 2007 11:22

The former Jayhawks singer/songwriter crafts his first true solo album.

Cary Brothers | Driven

Written by Laura Hamlett Friday, 10 August 2007 08:20

Music is like crack. I need it. I have to do it. If I had a choice, I would have chosen something more stable. Its fun and it's crazy and I'm enjoying the hell out of it now, but in terms of ultimately having a family or some kind of stability, it's a very difficult thing to balance when you want to have a normal life.

Marc Broussard | Blue Eyed Soul From the Bayou

Written by Amy Burger Friday, 10 August 2007 03:35

live_broussard_smBroussard's singing voice bears a striking resemblance to his idol, Stevie Wonder, but as he steps onto the small stage in Blueberry Hill's Duck Room, he looks more like your average college fraternity guy than a soul legend, clad in baggy jeans, an untucked, button-down oxford and a tweed cap, with a soft beard and soft blue eyes.

G. Love & Special Sauce | The Sweet Sound of Summer

Written by Amy Burger Sunday, 22 July 2007 17:00

To describe the band's one-of-a-kind sound, Dutton coined the term "hip-hop blues." This is a pretty accurate description for a guy who sounds like a cross between De la Soul and John Lee Hooker.

Prefab Sprout | Blinded With Science

Written by Laura Hamlett Monday, 09 July 2007 14:14

I never realized Thomas Dolby had produced Steve McQueen. Back then, I didn't care whose name was affixed to which release; all that mattered was the sound, the band, the way it made me feel.

Witch's Hat | Real Mastery

Written by Bob McMahon Saturday, 02 June 2007 06:11

prof_witch_smThere's some stuff stayed basically the same; there's some stuff that got major overhauls; one song got entirely re-recorded ["Space Baby"]. We went back and just made it sound a lot better. It's a more representative product.

St. Louis KISS Expo | Bruce Kulick

Written by Jim Ousley Wednesday, 30 May 2007 07:56

What I learned from Gene and Paul was that they experienced all of the ups and downs in the business so they knew how to protect the band and move forward and survive in a difficult industry. They were able to deal with the record company and people who did the tours in a very tough way, because they rightfully felt that no one knew their vision like they did.
