We promise to bring something to strum your heartstrings, something to fall asleep to and live with.
Three and a half years ago, Kansas City emo-pop outfit Josephine Collective released their debut EP Living on Warner Bros. Records. They played the Warped Tour. All looked bright.
Of course, you know how this part of the story ends. The young band receives no support from the label; the label drops the young band.
One year ago Josephine Collective called it quits. “It was a really tumultuous time for me because I was terrified of what would happen next,” says founder/original member Dillon DeVoe. “I had formed a band that I was not that proud of at the moment.”
Thankfully for music fans, the next 12 months found DeVoe having a change of heart. “Josephine signified a way for me to make my dreams come true,” he says, “and I wanted to bring that back to life.”
Though he is the only remaining member, he is confident in his reformed band’s talent. “Andrew Walleck, Eli Wieters, Matthew Gratton and Andrew Zahniser are helping me pick up where the others left off,” DeVoe says. “The band has become a lot more open to possibilities.”
Today, the goals of the Collective are simple: “Fulfilling our own injured dreams and seeing where we can be a year from now,” states DeVoe. “We promise to bring something new that you haven’t heard yet, something to strum your heartstrings, something to fall asleep to and live with.” | Laura Hamlett
Josephine Collective plays Cicero’s in St. Louis at 8 p.m. on January 11, 2011. Tickets are $8, available in advance or at the door. The show is 18+; there is a $3 minor surcharge.
