Tracey John Morrissey, Maysam Attaran, and Mario Viele are three new names on the scene of peppy pick-me-up punk. Say that three times fast. Sex Robots is their name and contagious melody is their game. Their new self-titled debut album contains ten songs that can knock you out of your over-heated summertime blues. The overall vibe for this record is energetic with driving guitars and drum hits.

"Take Me Out Dancin'" begins with vibrant guitar chords and vocals that nod to the Ramones, with lyrics like "...Rock, rock, rock my brain." Next up is the heavy-hitting "Jet Awesome," which contains familiar references to partying and the potential dangers of whiplash at a punk show.

Slowing up the pace a little is "Just Another Drug," which finds the narrator view another person just as he would his drugs, and the harm that can cause a relationship. Sounds serious, but it is done in a light-hearted manner, with good guitars from Viele, to boot.

Then Sex Robots returns to a traditional punk pace with "Can't Stop (Goin' Crazy)," rocking in at 91 seconds. "Your Way Out" is an immediate standout if for nothing else but the snappy chanted chorus, "You always said that rock 'n' roll was your way out/but look at where it got you now."

The summer jam band song has got to be "U Don't Call." This reminds me of "Pumping on Your Stereo" by Supergrass. It has a similar good build-up that unconsciously causes a head-nodding reaction, placing a smile on your face. A little more edgy and stand off is "Everyone I Know Is Dead."

"Listen Little Thing" gives the listener a feverish, F-bomb plea for a hook-up with a tattooed girl. Hasn't every drunken punk guy been there? "Knives" ends the rotation of Sex Robots. Morrissey, Attaran, and Viele combine together smoothly as if they were a veteran bandmates. The "yeah yeahs" are fun vocals, fitting with the guitar solo running right into the end of the chorus.

Sex Robots have a definite knack for infectious punk rock, perfect for your selective listening needs. The band is touring non-stop on the West Coast/Midwest through the summer, where they will without a doubt be "rockin' like a heart attack."
