KWMU presents an evening with best-selling author and humorist David Sedaris

America probably hasn't seen a humorist writer and commentator the likes of David Sedaris since the days of Mark Twain. The best-selling author of essay collections including When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, Me Talk Pretty One Day and Naked and regular contributor to This American Life on National Public Radio will make an exclusive St. Louis appearance next Wednesday, April 22, at Powell Symphony Hall for an evening of engaging recollections and readings.

Sedaris made his comic debut recounting his strange-but-true experiences of being a Macy's elf, reading his "Santaland Diaries" on Nation Public Radio's Morning Edition in 1992. His sardonic humor and incisive social critique have made him one of NPR's most popular and humorous commentators. In 2001, he was named by Time magazine as Humorist of the Year and received the Thurber Prize for American Humor.

Sedaris' witty observations of the bizarre in every day life deliver insights and laughs. He derives his comic tales from his childhood in North Carolina as one of six children in a second-generation Greek family and from his bizarre early career path including stints as a house painter, an apple picker, an aide in a mental hospital, a creative writing teacher at the Art Institute of Chicago and an apartment cleaner.
