If you’ve ever wanted to see art in motion, you will get your chance next weekend as the world renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater graces us with their performances March 11-12 at the Fabulous Fox. The show will consists of dance numbers entitled, “Uptown,” “The Evolution of a Secured Feminine,” “The Hunt” and “Revelations” on Friday. Saturday’s matinee includes “Night Creature,” “In/Side,” “Anointed,” and “Revelations.”

Out of the eight dance performances two were choreographed by the great Alvin Ailey who believed that one of America’s richest treasures lied in the “sometimes sorrowful, sometimes jubilant, but always hopeful” heritage of Black Americans.  The other ensembles include choreography that tells the story of the issues during the Harlem Renaissance and of the jazz songstresses. From shows across the Atlantic in South Africa and Europe to New York and Chicago everyone is raving about these dancers.

The performances of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater include traditional spirituals and take its audiences on the journey of the saddest and happiest moments in American history. The dancing is simply breath-taking. If you’ve ever danced or wanted to dance a day in your life these dancers would definitely make you desire to do it again.

When you get a chance to see these amazingly talented dancers in action, you will surely understand that art is not a dying breed. It’s simply being reinvented and put into a collection of dancers who believe in the life that dancing provides. If the story is not fully understood through the performances there will be a free Speaking of Dance talk 45 minutes before each performance in the Marquee Room. Presented by Dance St. Louis and Wells Fargo, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is a part of the Wells Fargo Advisors Fox Series.
