For the record, let me state that there is nothing wrong with Egypt Central's self-titled release. John Falls demonstrates an impressive vocal range reminiscent of Linkin Park. The guitar sound is crisp and modern, with enough distortion to bob heads and start pits at a rock show. Songs like "Taking You Down" and "You Make Me Sick" are instantly catchy and shine with a modern, radio-ready production. Once again, there is nothing inherently wrong with this album.

However, Egypt Central brings little to the table that the perceptive listener hasn't heard before. For the most part, songs seem locked into the standard verse-chorus-verse motif, with little deviation throughout. The infectious lyrics that are so immediately absorbed are just as easily forgotten. The compositions seem tailor-made to that effect, specifically arranged in a way that would guarantee a warm reception on mainstream radio.

The final verdict: a collection of well played but ultimately bland songs that break no new ground in the genre. Egypt Central will appeal to avid fans of the modern rock genre, but provide little reason for the casual listener to tune in. C+ | Josh Vise
