PLAYBACK:stl's London correspondent reports on Semi Precious Weapons' show at Death Disco and one new fan (among many).
[Dateline London Thurs 24 Jan. 2008] Kate Moss last night again showed why she's ahead of the pack by showing up at Notting Hill Gate's Death Disco club to cheer on the controversial new American rock'n'roll band Semi Precious Weapons on their first-ever UK tour.
The band, led by the glamorous six foot six platinum blonde creature of variable sexuality Justin Tranter were voted "New York's Best Band" in the Village Voice Readers Poll and are all the new rage across the Atlantic. [Ed. Note: The band has also played numerous shows for PLAYBACK including a headline spot at last year's PLAY:stl festival.]
Looking stunning, Kate danced and cheered at the side of the stage, often open-mouthed at Justin's wild antics - he's the only rock star who does the splits in silver boots with six inch high stiletto heels - and songs like "That's Kunt" and "Her Hair Is On Fire" with the lines "She don't want no water, let her fucking head burn."
Later, Kate, now wearing a Semi Precious Weapons t shirt, strutted her stuff on the dancefloor with Tranter, who towered above the supermodel and SPW manager, the rock legend B.P. Fallon, who didn't quite tower over the petite model.
The title of one of Semi Precious Weapons songs says it perfectly: "Rock'n'Roll Never Looked So Beautiful."
Amen
Semi Precious Weapons played two more London shows - The Queen Is Dead at The Borderline [Jan. 25] and The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch [Jan. 27] - before playing in Paris at La Fleche D'Or [Jan. 28]. Their New York Homecoming Heroes show is at R Bar on The Bowery [Feb. 2].
