Gross-out king Johnny Ryan returns with another collection of his hilariously vile series Angry Youth Comix.

If you're already a fan of his work, buying Johnny Ryan's XXX Scumbag Party is akin to buying a box set by a favorite musician; the stuff you know and love is in there, but your investment is only really worth it if it comes with extras. The extras in this collection of Angry Youth issues 6-10 include more than 100 one-panel gag cartoons that, like all of Ryan's stuff, are so vile you either get it and laugh out loud, or feel sick right there in the comics store.

Hitler wears an "I [Swastika] NY" T-shirt. A man pokes his dick though a hole cut through the pages of a book—a naked woman on all fours in front of him says, "You've made reading the Bible fun again!" One astronaut says to another, "Fun fact! Did you know that it's totally legal to look at child porn on the moon?" Like the gross-out-contest movie The Aristocrats, Ryan's gags aggressively poke fun at our sense of offensiveness, and so they lose the power to offend.

But not, as it turns out, to sicken. In Ryan's world, hookers wallow in puke and great piles of poop fly through the air and smack people in the face—a lot. It would be the ultimate juvenile read if it weren't so funny for jaded adults, too. When a unicorn farts in the faces of Ryan stalwarts Loady McGee and Sinus O'Gynus, they are magically transported to a land where "the streets are paved with assholes" and "teddy bears piss Golden Grahams!" Ryan seems to have challenged himself to make such topics as rape, pedophilia, and lynching funny, and well, he's succeeded. It may not be for everyone, but if you can appreciate a dead, taxidermied hobo on roller skates, you might wanna pick up a copy. | Byron Kerman
