We're not going to candycoat this: This Friday begins the biggest festival this town has seen in years. PLAY:stl: 90 bands, 9 stages, 3 days for just $10 ($15 dos). Come to the U. City Loop and see some of the best that St. Louis and the U.S. has to offer. See photos from the festival here .

PLAY:stl FESTIVAL 2007 | September 21, 22 & 23

Wristbands Now Available for Just $10 ($15 during the festival)

The first annual PLAY:stl Music Festival & Conference is here! Sept. 21-23 in the University City Loop at venues including Cicero's, Blueberry Hill, The Halo Bar, Market in the Loop, Vintage Vinyl, and two outdoor stages. PLAY:stl also celebrates Cicero's 30th anniversary. We'll have a day of industry panels on Sept. 21, followed by two nights and two days of music and entertainment.

All of this is just $10 for an entire weekend of entertainment. Wristbands will be available the days of the festival for $15, but purchase them right now for just $10 at several locations, including Cicero's, Vintage Vinyl, Screenz, Subterranean Books, The Pageant Box Office, Webster University Student Center, and CheapTRX. Or if you want to purchase them online and have them sent right to your home (or will call),
run on over to PayPal (you don't even need a PayPal account, just a credit card). There is a minor fee of $1, but you can purchase as many as you want for that buck!

Bands playing the first annual PLAY:stl include Margot & the Nuclear So and So's, Modern Day Zero, King Thief, Brighton MA, Semi Precious Weapons, The October, Beta Male, The Last Almanac, RadioRadio, and 81 more. A complete list, along with schedules, is available on the PLAY:stl website
. Panels have also been announced for Friday, and include 24 very influential tastemakers in the music industry; more info is available on the website.

We of course wouldn't be able to do a thing without our sponsors. You can find out more information about the likes of Boulevard Brewing, Miller Beer, Webster University, The Point, Warner Brothers (and their movie August Rush), Screenz, CheapTRX, Monster Energy Drink, Po Boy Drums, and more at the PLAY:stl site.

More about PLAY:stl
The objectives of PLAY:stl are twofold: (1) increase awareness of the St. Louis area as a musical hub, rich with talented musicians and music-loving fans, and (2) provide festival performers and atten
dees with a broader audience as well as educational and networking opportunities to increase their career success.

PLAY:stl is a community event, incorporating the ideas and efforts of a number of local musicians and movers 'n' shakers. Behind the festival is PLAYBACK:stl, the five-plus-year-old music and entertainment magazine founded and run by Laura Hamlett and Jim Dunn, in print four and a half years before going web-only last fall. More than just a collection of words, PLAYBACK:stl has long been involved in booking shows, hosting events, and drawing attention to the local music community and independent artists. Also driving PLAY:stl is Bigfatcat, a local management, public relations and graphic design firm. An offshoot of PLAYBACK:stl, Bigfatcat focuses on booking, promotions and advancing artists' careers.
