Reckon So Productions, Ghost Robot and Balcony Releasing are pleased to present Sara Lamm's documentary "Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox," a quirky portrait of an eccentric
and philosophical soapmaker whose heirs continue to run one of the original
and most successful green
companies in the world.
The
family continues to honor and expand upon the late Dr. Bronner's vision of "Constructive Capitalism, where you share
the profits with the workers and the Earth!" The soap is certified organic,
the bottles are 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (the first in America), and
the Bronner's have all capped their salaries so that they make no more than five
times that of the lowest paid fully-vested employee. The $18 million dollar
company gives away nearly 70% of its net profit and sells over 6 million bottles
a year with distribution in North America, Japan, Korea, Great Britain and
Australia. The family recently announced a
Holy Land Fair Trade Project with organic farmers-an initiative
that is bringing Israeli and Palestinian
farmers together by blending their olive
oils, giving them economic opportunity
and promoting co-existence. Ralph Bronner, now 70-years young, recently
commented on how proud his father would be.
