With its origin harkening back to Kensrue's days playing for spare change on the street corners of Southern California, Please Come Home is a stripped down, rollicking folk record that is fairly impressive and largely successful.

While the sticker on the front of this disc will surely fill you in on this fact, Please Come Home is the debut solo disc from Thrice centerpiece Dustin Kensrue. With its origin harkening back to Kensrue's days playing for spare change on the street corners of Southern California, Please Come Home is a stripped down, rollicking folk record that is fairly impressive and largely successful.

Please Come Home starts rather strong with the locomotive rhythms of "I Knew You Before," the heartfelt "Pistol," the lovesick blues of the title track, and the most stomping—and the best—cut on the disc, "Blood and Wine." While the quality continues on with "Considering the Ravens," Kensrue slows the tempo way down for the final two cuts. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but perhaps it would have been wiser to space the tracks out, as they bring Please Come Home to a rather tepid conclusion. B | David Lichius
