Bald Eagle | Bacon and Eggs, Dear (Emergency Umbrella)

| Print |

I lack the skills and language to communicate exactly what is Bald Eagle. I mean, what person writes songs titled “Sniffing Glue and Casual Sex” or “Fucking Christian Laser Tag”? No, no, I don’t get you, Bald Eagle.

You know, I really can’t describe Bald Eagle any better than they describe themselves. “Like a frat boy puking on the shoes of his ineffectual lover, Columbia Mo. vomits up the missing number to the world’s rock and roll sudoku puzzle.” However I have 300 more words of filler, so I’m going to give it a shot.

I can’t describe them accurately because, well, I’m normal compared to them. I am not an awesomely fucked up dude, therefore, I lack the skills and language to communicate exactly what is Bald Eagle. I mean, what person writes songs titled “Sniffing Glue and Casual Sex” or “Fucking Christian Laser Tag”? No, no, I don’t get you, Bald Eagle.

Yet, I’m mysteriously drawn to them. Like Clarice intrigued by Hannibal Lechter, I must always go back for more. It’s the dance beats mixed with the ska horns and the ferocious guitar riffs. It’s heavy metal, hardcore, light, and even uplifting—all in the same CD. A burrito of musical delight, if you will.

It’s the kind of music that gives you a headache if you’re not paying attention. Loud, but not dark, most songs would be a good fit in a violent video game. Its sense of humor is hidden in the screams and lyrics (most unintelligible) and the delivery of the point, (which they seem to believe is also not as important as the over-all energy and music package).

Bacon and Eggs, Dear is Bald Eagle’s first full length. The cover art is a replica of the Beatles’ Yesterday and Today’s “butcher” photo. (The story goes that the Beatles tried to demystify themselves with a “pop art satire” photo of themselves in doctor coats covered in decapitated dolls and meat. Public outrage and disgust consequently led all remaining “butcher” covers to be burnt or covered by the common “trunk” photo.) Oh, just another pop culture reference for these Midwest ragamuffins. I wouldn’t hesitate to assume that Bald Eagle has psycho-killer tendencies. Crazy people make the best art. Cough. Michael Jackson. Sneeze.
