Put The Book Back On The Shelf: A Belle & Sebastian Anthology (Image; 144pgs FC; $19.99) (W/A: Various) Belle & Sebastian singer-songwriter Stuart Murdoch’s lyrics are like art, packed with rich, evocative imagery. Only logical, then, that he would inspire a group of artists to attempt to turn his words into pictures. Hence Put the Book Back On the Shelf, where creators like B. Clay Moore, Ande Parks, and Andi Watson try their hand at bringing Murdoch’s twisted characters to life. Essential Moon Knight Vol. 1 (Marvel; 536pgs b&w; $16.99) (W/A: Various) Just in time for the new miniseries featuring art by David Finch (New Avengers) comes this retrospective on Moon Knight, Marvel’s answer to Batman, collecting dozens of early appearances, plus the first dozen issues of the Fist of Khonshu’s ongoing solo series, written by creator Doug Moench and featuring artist Bill Sienkiewicz’s work in stunning black and white. Battle Club Vol. 1 (Tokyopop; 192pgs b&w; $9.99) (W/A: YUJI SHIOZAKI) Let’s face it: As a male reader, sometimes you want to read comics that say something deep and meaningful, and sometimes, you just want to watch hot chicks beat the crap out of each other and maybe tear some clothes off in the process. For those weaker moments, you can’t do much better than Yuji Shiozaki, a scholar of the female form and the king of “fan service,” whose last series Battle Vixens redefined the T&A action epic.
