Most people who know me know that I am not that much of a hater. Live and let live, etc. Last night I got myself to hate status with the intrusion on a very well-protected computer of a malicious spyware called SpySheriff. It actually bills itself as an antispyware, however it takes control of your computer and, pardon the German, fucks you over and leaves a desktop picture that says you have been invaded by spyware, you must go here (their convenient Website) and download this spyware to save you from spyware (them). This would be blackmail. I spent well over 6 hours killing it (thank you Geeks to Go, Wikipedia, PC Review, and a long google of helpers). However, I was supposed to be doing the Web, not fooling around with some idiot's version of marketing. To come up with this stuff you have to be fairly smart (and to fight it you have to be smarter) so why can't these people spend their time coming up with something useful, like how to play the iPod in the car more comfortably or making Macs and PCs play better together or maybe world peace or a cure for cancer. Like I said, not a hater, a lover, a man who believes that favors and good deeds go rewarded. Now my computer looks like it did 12 hours ago...me, I look a little bit older. However, there is some joy in having (hopefully) beaten the dimwits. Peace, love, and no viruses in 2006. Jim |
