I labor to describe this because it was one of the most impressive
displays by a band I have seen in a great while. It is also the “oh
wow” effect that often is used when a band has little left to say. This
is not the case with this show and this band. (Photo: Dominik Jansky)

This is may be what sets her apart from her peers-she's always looking for that extra avenue of unearthed energy, and always confidently taking her time to find it. |

While their performance, stage antics and great music gave fans a lot to reflect on; the Kills certainly didn't force it verbally, only intermitting "thank yous" every five songs or so. |

Frontman Reggie Youngblood's initial thank you to the Mobius Band turned into him damning the band for "upstaging" them. |

The setlist mixed more-or-less equal portions of new songs played as-is and old songs re-imagined.

Think of the huge party scene from the film "PCU," but with The Roots' Black Thought and ?uestlove stepping off the tour bus instead of George Clinton and P-Funk.

The important thing to realize from this show was that the band didn't just play for nearly three hours straight, but that they played well for three hours straight. |

Sadly, Neko Case broke her ankle two nights before the St. Louis show and did not appear. I was disappointed, but kept my hopes high.

Her voice is sexy and husky, full of low and high notes. I could listen to her all night.

As the night wore on, the crowd was treated to deadpan commentary worthy of Arrested Development.

Mixing and blending influences you can get a glimpse of the world music rhythms and flow of Paul Simon, song craft from The Beatles, vocal and acoustic guitar nuances from James Taylor, jazz guitar improvisation like Pat Metheny, and extremely slick lead guitar playing in the style of Larry Carlton. I can't believe he hasn't caught on more nationally on a large scale level.

When the band took the stage at The Pageant to the delight of a full house of clearly die-hard fans, my first and most dominant impression was the absolutely mad guitar skills of both Bayliss and Jake Cinninger. |

While their music draws heavily from influences of many generations ago, their sound is extremely refreshing, especially given the boring, uninspired state of mainstream music and the growing homogenization of "indie" rock. |

When I saw my straight-laced friend crowd-surfing moments after the Black Lips took stage, I knew this was an atypical show.

The Junkies, heavily due to Margo's voice, are able to change a song drastically from its original version, while managing to keep the integrity of it.

Guitarist Chris Thorn and bassist Brad Smith were asked to produce Texas singer-songwriter Travis Warren’s demo tracks a few years ago, and discovered that not only was he a diehard Blind Melon fan who know almost every song’s lyric by heart, his voice was almost chill-inducingly identical to Hoon’s.

The dramatic entrance followed after a few direful verses as they immediately broke into "Famous for Nothing," the first track of their latest full length.
