You could
fill a hall of fame with the blues musicians who lived in the Maxwell
Street area, including Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and
Little Walter to name just a few. Cheat You Fair is narrated by former Chicagoan Joe Mantegna and
features interviews with a wide cast of citizens from Studs Terkel to
Buddy Guy to Dan Ackroyd.

Much of the film is narrated with voiceover reflecting the character's thoughts and feelings, which achieves a poetic quality absent in the spoken dialogue.

Gozu is one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen, and also one of the most brilliant.

I enjoyed watching this: it has that crazy mix of genres and conventions which you often find in Japanese film and has the added benefit of not taking itself too seriously.

By the end of this half-season set the cast has been completely run through the ringer, making it hard to imagine what they could do for an encore but leaving you eager to find out.

The film is built from a series of short scenes, a technique that allows the story to unfold gradually as the connections among the characters are revealed.

The end result is a pretty strong argument for the transfer of just about everything to blu-ray.

The animation is sharp and stylish and there's no lack of either pageantry or action sequences.

Although it shows the artist at work and interviews him about his life, to its everlasting credit the film doesn’t try to explain Nara's creative process.

Lovely by Surprise is an odd, odd movie with a lot of charm.

The most obvious answer as to why Sakia Gunn's story did not receive wider coverage is that both victim and assailant were African-American, and Black-on-Black crime in Newark simply isn't news to most of the nation.
