MusiCares® has been awarded a prestigious four-star rating by Charity Navigator, the largest independent evaluator of charities in the United States. Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator maintains an unbiased, objective, numbers-based rating system to assess the financial health of more than 5,000 of America’s best-known charities.

"MusiCares has worked to consistently grow our resources and broaden and fortify our programs—from health and human services and addiction recovery work to relief for victims of the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes and the recent Southern California wildfires," said MusiCares’ Board Chair John Branca. "A four-star rating from Charity Navigator is a clear indication that we are reaching our objectives."

Charity Navigator’s rating system examines two broad areas of a charity’s financial health—how responsibly it functions day to day, as well as how well positioned it is to sustain its programs over time. Each charity is then awarded an overall rating, ranging from zero to four stars. The nonprofit organization currently evaluates more than 5,300 charities, and approximately 25 percent of those receive the coveted four-star rating.

"It is highly appropriate for donors to be concerned about the impact and value of their contributions to charities," said Recording Academy President/CEO and MusiCares and GRAMMY Foundation® President Neil Portnow. "This four-star rating underscores both the fiscal responsibility and the sustained vitality of MusiCares, and can significantly help guide the giving choices of prospective donors."
