In The Spotlight this month are the Pennsylvania rockers known as Halestorm. On the eve of the release of their third full-length album, the band is back, and with a vengeance. Into The Wild Life hits store shelves and digital outlets in April, and if the sound of the first single “Apocalyptic” is any indication, this album rages with some of the finest in-your-face hard rock being produced. With a blistering sound and melodic yet vicious vocals, Halestorm is a force to be reckoned with.

Hailing from Red Lion, PA the four piece outfit is fronted by vocalist/rhythm guitarist Lizzy Hale with brother AreJay Hale on drums. Alongside them are Joseph Hottinger on lead guitar and Josh Smith on bass. The Grammy-winning band started as early as 1997, when The Hale Children were quite young (7 and 10). With the release of their self-titled debut in 2009, they started turning heads and ears. Known for their impeccable and intense work ethic, they tour constantly, having shared the stage with artists like Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Disturbed, and Heaven and Hell, to name a few.

The band’s second album, The Strange Case Of…, released in April 2012, gave birth to the Grammy-winning single “Love Bites (So Do I)” winning in the Best Hard Rock Performance category. More intense touring followed, with bands like Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman, and Buckcherry. While onstage during a show, the band members were informed that they had, indeed, been nominated for a Grammy. Not only did they win, they became the first female-fronted hard rock band to ever be both nominated and winner of the award. The band also became the first band with a female front person to top the Active Rock Airplay chart.

Reaching the top of the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart with the second single from The Strange Case Of…., “Freak Like Me,” the band has made strides no other act has achieved. Lizzy Hale’s vocals are also featured on a cover version on the Ozzy Osbourne/Lita Ford classic hit “Close My Eyes Forever.”

Now, with the up-coming release of their newest opus, Into The Wild Life, the band is embarking on a national tour with The Pretty Reckless as their special guest. The first single, “Apocalyptic,” shows the band in fine hard rocking form. The newest video from the album is for a track titled “Amen.” A CD single containing both tracks is available as a Best Buy only release, as well as a boxed-set, including a Halestorm T-shirt.

Now, with a live onslaught planned, Halestorm really has nothing left to prove. This band encompasses everything a hard rock band should. Hard rocking and hard working, this is just the beginning of one hell of a storm. | Marc Farr
