Top 5 Concerts of 2012 | Michael Koehler

best2012 sqThe last few years, for various reasons, I have not been able to attend nearly as many shows I would have loved to. This year, however, I was able to get in close to 15 (it really could have been 25). 2012 was just a jam-packed year of shows. In order, this is my list of the best five I attended.

1. My Morning Jacket | 08.08.12, Peabody Opera House

I have been a fan since their brilliantly perfect At Dawn hit in 2002. Every time they’ve rolled through, I make it a point to see them. The reason why is they are the best live band in America. Their ENORMOUS sound was perfect in the acoustic-rich Peabody.

2. Frank Turner | 02.21.12, Off Broadway

Just a fantastic show. Turner is so authentic and true and it shows in his performance. Everyone there was blessed to have seen that show.

3. Nick Lowe | 09.26.12, Sheldon Concert Hall

This was actually the first time I’d ever been in the Sheldon and I cannot imagine a more perfect show to introduce me to the venue. Lowe sounded fantastic and played pretty much a greatest-hits show. Here is my review.

4. M83 | 05.02.12, The Pageant

I got the chance to go with fellow PLAYBACK:stl contributor Mike Rengel. Such a fantastic show, whether you were on the floor dancing or up in the balcony chair dancing.

5. Fang Island | 07.29.12, Off Broadway

Overall, an excellent show. You can read my review here
