10 Shows I Feel Like an Idiot for Missing | Janet Noe Rhoads

bestof musicOkay, I am kind of torn on this one. The reason why I don’t do Loufest is because I am allergic to the heat and I would most likely spend most of the day passed out in the medical tent.

DESSA

  1. Dessa at Firebird | Dessa kicks so much ass, her voice ought to be considered a lethal weapon. Why didn’t I go? There were so many other shows that week, I got exhausted. Also, I am an idiot.
  2. Any show Middle Class Fashion played prior to December | Why didn’t I go? Because idiotic me just didn’t listen to all of the people telling me how flipping fantastic they are. Lesson. Learned.
  3. They Might Be Giants at The Pageant | Not to put too fine a point on it, but for a long time they were a bee in my bonnet (not the only, let’s not get crazy here) and I don’t know why I passed that show up like an idiot.
  4. Father John Misty’s June show at The Firebird | I was in a wedding out of town. On this one, I am not an idiot. I am a good friend and it was an honor to miss this show.
  5. Hey Marseilles at Off Broadway | I found out that I liked them about three days after they played St. Louis. Timing is an idiot.
  6. Shakey Graves at Plush | I got sick. Idiotic germs.
  7. Jeff Mangum at The Sheldon | Out of town? I don’t remember. Idiot brain cells.
  8. Neko Case at The Pageant | Contrary to what some folks might think, we music reviewers don’t know every band ever. Even when they are in our wheelhouse. Even when they have the kind of following and chunk of past awesomeness that Neko has. Chalk this one up to ignorance, not idiocy. Now I know.
  9. The National at Loufest | Okay, I am kind of torn on this one. The reason why I don’t do Loufest is because I am allergic to the heat and I would most likely spend most of the day passed out in the medical tent. Then, on the other hand…The National. Le sigh. Heat is an idiot.
  10. Bob Dylan at Peabody Opera House | Sometimes you have no money. I am fighting myself with everything I have within myself to not craft some sort of “Idiot Wind” joke. I know that was a damn fine show. I tried to put in to review but alas, sometimes luck is an idiot.
