Preview: 2010 80/35 Festival

This Independence Day, celebrate by getting your rock on at 80/35.

July 3 and 4, 2010
Des Moines, IA

This 4th of July weekend, maybe you’re thinking you might want to do something different than the standard “barbeque and fireworks” bit. Maybe you’re considering getting out of town and see some live music. Maybe you have an inexplicable urge to visit the wide-open spaces and friendly environs of the great state of Iowa.

If any of this holds true for you, then you’re in luck. This year’s 80/35 Festival, located in the heart of a revitalized downtown Des Moines, offers an incredibly solid musical lineup spread across two days and three stages. The main stage features, among others, Yo La Tengo, Slightly Stoopid, The Walkmen, and The Cool Kids, and is headlined by indie-rock powerhouses Spoon on Saturday night and Modest Mouse on Sunday night. The smaller stages offer solid talent too, including Earl Greyhound, Dawes, and Dar Williams.

Tickets for two-day passes are only $60 in advance. There will be a ton of local food and local beer to sample, and activities for kids in addition to the two full days of music. More details, including the full schedule and lineup, can be found at This Independence Day, celebrate by getting your rock on at 80/35. | John Shepherd
