Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Ghosts of Christmas Eve | 12.27.15

Scottrade Center, St. Louis

An annual tradition, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra brought their illuminatus stage show to the Scottrade Center. Sporting an entirely new performance, nothing less than the word “bombastic” can be used to describe this show. The stage effects take you into their world, and you have no desire to look back. With a stage entrenched with LED screens, the visuals are enormous. Yet, even if you stripped this show of all of the illumination, the music stands alone. Heavy, loud, and precise, the members of TSO are phenomenal musicians who inspire and impress the audience. Whether it is on the heavy guitar, to the rocking force of an electric violin, TSO takes you for a rockin’ ride through the holiday season.

This time around, TSO brought a whole new production with them, wowing those who have seen them before as well as those who have not. Multicolored lasers shot through the air, while snow fell on the audience from above. With laser-like precision, the band rocked tunes from their latest release, Letters from the Labyrinth, as well as material from their other eight studio albums. Their longtime narrator tells a story of Christmas past, of Yuletide dreams come true, and of wishes for the holiday future.

Overall, this is a spectacular show, yet another reason to celebrate the holiday season. TSO has quickly become a tradition, and I hope that tradition lives on for years to come. | Marc Farr
