Rival Sons stormed the stage and rocked the house just before the skies opened up on the crowd at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013.

Rival Sons has the good old-fashioned, long lost rock ‘n’ roll 80s sound with a perfect balance of drums and guitar—serving the term rock and roll very well.

They took the stage dressed conservatively but armed with good hard beats, fantastic acoustics, and wisdom behind the lyrics, which had the audience gearing up for one hell of a show full of rock ‘n’ roll memories. Sammy must be proud!

I was especially impressed with the original song, “Burn Down Los Angeles,” which carried a sexy, bluesy rock style by way of Jay Buchanan’s vocals. It is clear that Rival Sons is headed onwards and upwards in the rock ‘n’ roll world.

A surprise thunderstorm erupted, adding pouring rain and maybe a little hail to the skillful beats of Rival Sons’ last song, setting the stage for what could have been a muddy, stormy concert. The rain did make for an interesting scene. I heard one guy yell out “it’s a wet T-shirt contest”.. . Guys! Luckily after about 20 minutes, the clouds cleared and Sammy took the stage about 30 minutes later.
