The Pageant, St. Louis

The Glitch Mob, one of EDM’s finest acts, brutalized St. Louis this month, bringing its signature style dance music to life. Hot off the release of its digital-only new EP, Piece of the Indestructible, the band rocked and popped the audience.

From the beginning of the show, the band was an unleashable beast. With a large stage set known as “The Blade,” it was a sonic and visual feast, and the crowd ate it up. With tracks including “Can’t Kill Us,” “Becoming Harmonious,” and the mind-blowing “Mind of a Beast,” TGM’s band members have once again proved that they are the West Coast Kings of EDM. They have raised the bar quite high for new bands, and may just be the best in the business.

As they played the first single from the newest release, “Better Run, Better Hide,” the energy level was palpable. Audience members young and not-so young were jumping and fist pumping to the dominant beat. The Blade also comes equipped with eight large drums and a button for every possible sound. But, unlike many EDM artists, this is much more than a cacophony of noise. The Glitch Mob delivers well-articulated and structured pieces of electronic sound with a pop sensibility, and melodies that stick in your head long after the show is over.

For almost two hours, the band rocked and thumped the crowd into a frenzy, By show’s end, most everyone was hot, sweaty, and exhausted. When I asked several audience members what they thought of the show, I received responses such as, “totally fucking awesome” and “they raged tonight!”—obviously a very happy, spent crowd.

The Glitch Mob is explosive in a live setting, so much so that it is not uncommon to hear, “I don’t really like electronic music, but I love The Glitch Mob.” Well said! | Marc Farr
