Benatar kept the audience enraptured, playing hit after hit.w/special guest Rick Springfield
Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, St. Louis

It was a beautiful night for classic rock in St. Louis as rock songstress Pat Benatar, along with her husband and guitarist Neil Giraldo, took the stage at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. Benatar, best known for her many hits in the 1980s, was in fine form vocally. A possessor of very powerful pipes, Benatar has not lost her vocal prowess. As she played tunes from her 30-plus-year career, the audience welcomed her with much applause.

Throughout her career, Benatar has enjoyed two multiplatinum albums, five platinum albums, and 17 Billboard-charting hits, 15 of which hit the Top 40. On stage, she is a vocal powerhouse, and Giraldo’s playing was meant for her. The connection between the two (together professionally since 1978; married for over 35 years) can be felt from the audience.

Like a fine wine, Benatar has aged gracefully, and her phenomenal voice has truly stood the test of time, as has her material. She holds the position of being handpicked as the second video ever shown on MTV with her hit “You Better Run.”

With tracks like “Love Is a Battlefield,” “We Belong,” “Invincible “and the ubiquiFor his part, Giraldo has a style and finesse all his own.

Closing the show with “Everybody Lay Down” and her first hit, “Heartbreaker,” she left the crowd wanting so much more. Benatar has certainly not lost her edge. This was a great show from a remarkable artist. | Marc Farr
