Although sometimes drawing comparisons to Slobberbone, another Denton, Texas, rock band, Centro-Matic avoids the former’s alt-country leanings. Overall, Fort Recovery rocks, yet with a warm and inviting sound that grows on you with each listen. The percussion on one cut, “Take the Maps and Run,” lends an almost jazzy groove. I’ll be deciphering, deconstructing, and attempting interpretation of the lyrics long after this review is in your hands. You’ll have to figure those out for yourself.
